2. Title: President Lee Says No Economic Crisis in Sight

3. We talked about the dimensions of power in our last class. After I watched the nationally-televised question and answer session by television news, I became to think about the changes of power given to President now and the past. As this news article shows, many citizen penels asked questions concerning economic crisis and his policies ciritically. President Lee answered in the mode of calm tough. However, when we compare the current image of president with that of 1980's, it is quite different. At that time, people just nively believed what president mentioned, but now people do not just follow president's saying. Instead, they can ask and have a bit of suspision. We can think about this aspect in that the third dimension of power does not work effectively in the current president position. People do not think that the president is the powerful position the same as the divine position.

President Lee Says No Economic Crisis in Sight

President Lee Myung-bak says an economic crisis is not going to happen in Korea.
And he reassured the public on Tuesday night at a nationally-televised question and answer session.

[Interview : President Lee Myung-bak ] "There is no sign of an economic crisis.
But I'll tell you there is difficulty, which we can overcome together. When the government and corporations work hard to defeat this obstacle, we can sail through the rough patches."

Regarding commodity prices President Lee said he will keep them under control while not burdening the middle and lower classes. Concerning real estate issues he mentioned his pet theory of boosting the redevelopment industry.

[Interview : President Lee Myung-bak ] "I always say, the reconstruction and remodelling of current buildings in urban areas are more effective than establishing new cities.
It actually has two purposes, namely, stabilizing housing prices and creating jobs for construction workers."

He added parts of the country's greenbelt zone should be dissolved if necessary.
The current administration is more inclined towards economic development rather than retaining undeveloped areas near cities. The 67-year-old president also disagreed with some of his critics who believe he favors conglomerates over smaller corporations.

[Interview : President Lee Myung-bak ] "We have increased the amount of subsidies to mid- and small-sized companies, for R&D purposes. So you can say, our policies are mostly geared towards helping those firms."

Last but not least he also spoke on behalf of the government's plans to advance public enterprises including the Korea Electric Power Corporation and the Korea Gas Corporation. President Lee said Seoul's aim is to improve the management practices rather than the privatization of those entities. He elaborated that he will consider putting a person with international experience in the CEO position of those firms.

2. title: the intimate relations can make a greater political power in monarchism or similar monarchism

3.

As we all know, the structure of North Korea has been centered to the one particular person. The way to elect the man in that great position is quite different from that of other democratic countries. Even though North Korea calls itself Democracy externally, we can see the actual structure of it is very similar to that of Kingdom in the succession way which the great position of power has been succeeded through the blood line, especially and mostly to the king's the eldest or dearest son in history. Because of that, when we analyse the structure of power in North Korea, it is very important to consider the structure of the leader's family tree as we can easily understand thinking of lots of historical episodes like the king Henri 8th of UK.
Like the system of monarchy, if we want to analyse the structure of succession of the power, we can take the micro level of methodology focusing on the relations of royal family and relatives. Therefore, I think it's not weird to pay attention to Kim Ok who is well-known as Kim's most beloved wife among his several wives. Under the system of Kingdom, although they assert that it is democracy, the leader's personal relationship could turn to the formal and political relationship easier than any other types of countries. That's the point we should think of with this article. Imagine this, at the most important time the Dear Leader has been ill reported very serious, the person who has been beside him most closely. We should look at this woman carefully and interestingly in a political way because she can affect the North Korea's important political positions and political issues maybe informally in near future.

Kim Ok at Dear Leader's Sickbed

South Korean intelligence officials are increasingly paying attention to a woman who is taking care of the ailing North Korean leader Kim Jong-il.

Kim Ok, 44, is known to be de facto the fourth wife of Kim Jong-il. As Kim’s confidante, she is one of a handful of people who have free access to the bedridden Kim Jong-il.

Analysts pointed out her as someone who deserves “the most attention” in terms of her growing political clout, which is likely to grow further.

For example, she is expected to influence on Kim Jong-il’s key personnel appointment and who can see the ailing Kim, in case the leader recovers his illness and resumes his work in a limited manner.

Kim Ok majored in piano at Pyongyang Musical College and started to work at one of the offices that managed secretarial tasks for Kim Jong-il.

2. Food Safety in China

3. Recently, the issue of food safety attracts national and international attention once more.
This month, cases of baby illness --mostly are kidney stones are found and reported in China.
One baby died and there are still more than 50 cases are reported. The milk powder company which is invested and found to be reponse for this case has found some problem with its product but did not report until the whole thing is eposed.
China's government has released its plan to solve this problem and more news are waited.

This is not the first time the food safty issues is brought in front of mass. But this time the injuried is the baby. Although this is not the first time the information transparence issue is brought.
Besides the respinsibility of the company, more attention were attraced to the respinsibility of the province government's duty. Why the information is lately reported and why the case was not stopped earlier.
Whether the government joined the company's stock or are there some special relationship? Or, perhaps, is that the Olympic games delayed the expose of information? How could a government keep its function runs well to serve the mass, and what is the basic function of government. There are more question besides the food saftey are raised.
Government is seen as a represent of a state's politic power, it protects the society running in a balanced way. But before the superior enforcement reaches common people, there are several levels of government organizations. These organs face the superior order and the inferior request.
On the other hand, from this news we can see the change of madie's power. China has a long history of blind information. As the development of internet, people begin to get close what really happens inside and outside the country.--the development of internet madie also brings problem, without doubt.

As above, I just tried to find some clues from different aspects, but it seems i got lost once more. I need to find more and get the inter-effect.

4.BEIJING - A preliminary investigation confirmed the contaminated Sanlu baby milk powder as the cause of kidney stones in infants after a first-phase probe by experts, China's Ministry of Health said here on Friday.

An investigation team jointly organized by departments including the health, public security, agriculture ministries and quality watchdog examined the urine and kidney stones of the infant patients and found the substance melamine therein.

The investigation team, which is in Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province, where dairy producer Sanlu Group is based, is now coordinating with the local government to investigate the incident.

"Those responsible for the contaminated milk will face severe punishment," said an official with the team.

The team arrived in Hebei on Friday. After listening to the local government's report on its handling of the incident, they collected samples and documents from the Sanlu Group and the local quality testing agency. They also visited the affected babies in local hospitals and gave advice on the treatment.

Sanlu, one of China's leading dairy producers, found during an internal company investigation in August its powdered milk products were contaminated with melamine, according to the team's investigation.

The statement didn't say why the company didn't release the findings until news reports exposed dozens of babies became sick with kidney stones after consuming the Sanlu brand of baby milk powder for a prolonged period.

Health experts said melamine is a chemical raw material. Ingestion can lead to stone formation in the urinary tract.
thermosetting plastic, melamine has an appearance similar to milk powder. It is widely used in manufacturing fabric, glue, housewares and flame retardants.

The substance gives the appearance of a high nitrogen level, which is an index to measure the protein content in food," a health expert told Xinhua. He declined to be named.
One baby in the northwest Gansu province died from the stones. At least 59 cases had been reported in Gansu and other provinces.

Sanlu had sealed off 2,176 tonnes of contaminated milk powder and recalled 8,210 tonnes from the market. There were still 700 tonnes in circulation. All the contaminated formula was produced before August 6.

Supermarkets in some provinces had started to pull the milk powder off shelves.

The Health Ministry said on Friday it had launched a nationwide investigation into the contaminated milk formula. All local health agencies were to report cases of infants with kidney stones immediately. It also issued a treatment plan on its website (www.moh.gov.cn) to help hospitals deal with sick babies.
